One of the questions I’m asked most often is, “What actually happens when we book a celebrant?”
It’s a fair question.
For most couples, this is the first time they’ve planned a wedding ceremony like this, so it’s difficult to know what to expect. If you’re still deciding whether a celebrant-led wedding is right for you, you might also enjoy reading about the differences between a celebrant ceremony and other types of wedding ceremony.
The process is actually much simpler than many people imagine.
We start with a conversation. I get to know you, learn about your story and begin creating a ceremony that’s built around the two of you rather than a standard script.
Along the way, I’m there to offer guidance, answer questions and help everything feel a little less daunting.
Every celebrant works differently, but this is what it’s like when you choose me.

It Starts With Getting to Know You
Before I write a single word of your ceremony, I want to get to know you both.
Not just how you met or when you got engaged, but the things that make your relationship yours.
The stories your friends still bring up years later. The moments that changed everything. The little habits and quirks that make you smile.
Those are often the details that bring a ceremony to life.
To help get things started, I ask couples to complete my Wedding Celebrant Application form. It gives me a wonderful insight into your relationship and often sparks memories you may not have thought about in years.
If you’d like to take a look, you can find it here: Wedding Celebrant Application
From there, we chat.
Sometimes over coffee, sometimes on a video call, sometimes in person. Whatever feels most comfortable.
There’s no interrogation and no long list of formal questions. Just a relaxed conversation where I learn about the two of you and begin to understand the kind of ceremony you’re hoping for.
Creating Something That Feels Like You
One of the things couples love most about a celebrant-led wedding is the freedom.
There isn’t a standard format that you have to follow.
Some couples want a ceremony full of laughter. Others prefer something more romantic and reflective. Most sit somewhere in between.
The beauty is that we can create something that feels right for you.
We might include personal vows, family traditions, special readings or symbolic elements that have meaning to you both. Equally, we can leave things out if they don’t feel like a good fit.
One thing I always say is that your ceremony doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s wedding.
It simply needs to feel like yours.
As I begin writing, I’ll share drafts with you so we can make sure everything feels right. It’s a collaborative process, but you never have to worry about finding the words yourself.
That’s my job.
The Part Many Couples Don’t Realise
A personalised ceremony takes time.
Not because it’s complicated, but because it’s written specifically for you.
After our conversations, I go away and start piecing everything together. Looking for the stories, moments and memories that deserve a place in your ceremony.
Often, the details couples mention almost in passing end up becoming some of the most memorable parts of the day.
I don’t work from templates, every ceremony is written from scratch because every couple has a different story to tell.
The aim isn’t to create something dramatic or overly sentimental.
It’s to create something honest. Something that sounds like you.

Support Beyond the Ceremony Script
One thing many couples don’t expect is how many little questions come up while planning a wedding.
Should we write our own vows?
How long should the ceremony be?
Do we need readings?
Where does everyone stand?
Part of my role is helping you work through those decisions.
Sometimes you need ideas. Sometimes you simply need reassurance that you’re already making the right choice.
Either way, I’m only ever a message or phone call away.
I want the planning process to feel enjoyable, not like another item on an ever-growing wedding to-do list.
Rehearsals, Nerves and Last-Minute Wobbles
No matter how organised you are, wedding nerves have a habit of appearing at some point.
That’s completely normal.
In fact, I’d be surprised if they didn’t.
Many couples worry about forgetting their vows, getting emotional or standing in the wrong place.
The reality is that weddings are wonderfully unpredictable. Plans shift, nerves appear and little unexpected moments happen along the way.
And that’s okay.
Some of the most memorable moments I’ve witnessed have been completely unplanned.
Having an experienced celebrant beside you means you don’t need to worry if something doesn’t go exactly to plan. We simply adapt and carry on.
Most guests won’t even notice.
Holding the Space on the Day
By the time your wedding day arrives, my focus is helping everything flow naturally.
I’ll guide the ceremony, keep things moving at the right pace and adapt if something unexpected happens.
Most importantly, I’ll help create an atmosphere where you can relax and enjoy the moment rather than worrying about what comes next.
Every ceremony has its own energy.
Some are full of laughter from beginning to end. Others are quieter and more reflective.
Most contain a little bit of both.
My role is to make sure you feel supported, comfortable and fully present so you can focus on what really matters.
Celebrating your love and the commitment you’re making to one another.

Why Personal Ceremonies Often Become the Part People Remember Most
When people think about weddings, they often picture the reception.
The meal, the speeches and the dancing that follows.
Yet time and time again, couples tell me how much they loved the ceremony itself.
Guests are often surprised too.
They expect a wedding ceremony. What they experience is something far more personal.
A chance to hear stories, learn things they never knew and feel genuinely connected to the couple standing in front of them.
That’s the beauty of a celebrant-led ceremony.
It gives people a moment to pause and reflect on the journey that brought you together before the celebrations begin.
My Promise to Every Couple I Work With
When you choose me as your celebrant, you’re not getting a ceremony pulled from a template.
You’re getting someone who takes the time to listen, understand what’s important to you and create something that genuinely reflects your relationship.
I give my all to each and every ceremony I write.
I want you to feel supported throughout the process, confident on the day itself and proud of the ceremony we’ve created together.
Most of all, I want you to look back and feel that it sounded like you.
Because that’s what a truly personal wedding ceremony should do.
If You’re Looking for a Ceremony That Feels Truly Personal
You don’t need to have everything planned before getting in touch.
Many couples contact me right at the beginning of their wedding journey. Others already have a venue booked and a clear vision for the day.
Wherever you are in the process, I’m always happy to chat.
We can talk through your ideas, answer any questions and explore what your ceremony could look like.
No pressure. No obligation.
Just a friendly conversation about creating a wedding ceremony that feels warm, heartfelt, uplifting and completely personal to you.
